After a year of renovations and program development, the Champlain Place Emergency Shelter opened its doors again on May 22. ?Champlain Place sits on Shelburne Road and is the third shelter project that the Champlain Valley Office of Economic Opportunity, CVOEO, and the Champlain Housing Trust have worked on together.? This partnership saw updates to rooms and the building, while also providing more programming opportunities. These building renovations include new plumbing and heating systems, flooring and repairs, and an outdoor courtyard for residents.

After surviving a turbulent relationship, Khayli is finding peace – and herself – at Voices Against Violence’s newest domestic violence shelter. Through workshops and communal living, Khayli is receiving the support she needs to grow and heal from both a substance use addiction and an abusive boyfriend.
Community members can walk in the shoes of Khayli and others experiencing hardships Saturday, May 24 during “In Their Shoes,” a fundraiser for CVOEO programs.

In addition to opening a location at the O'Brien Community Center in Winooski, the organization is also operating a weekly free food truck with a rotating menu.

Feeding Champlain Valley has announced that they will be returning to Burlington with a food truck tomorrow, April 16.
The ‘Good Food’ Truck will be parked at 186 Pearl Street from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m.
In a Facebook post, staff said that “Everyone is welcome. No cost, no catch—just good food for all.”

The Champlain Valley Office of Economic Opportunity (CVOEO) runs the project to support fair housing practices, educate people about housing rights, and provide training to community leaders.

As February came to a close, so did the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development’s (HUD)support for anti-discrimination and fair housing education and enforcement efforts around the country, including Vermont’s own CVOEO Fair Housing Project. HUD’s annual grant funded 80% of the Fair Housing Project, which is Vermont’s only statewide program solely dedicated to Fair Housing outreach and education.
