Seasonal Fuel

Seasonal Fuel Assistance is a State program that can help pay part of your home heating bills — whether you own your home or rent, pay for heat directly or as part of rent. You can learn more from the State website.

It is the base of all the fuel programs; not only is it the best method for a lower income family to help themselves maintain heat through the winter months.

You need to apply for Seasonal Fuel in order to be eligible to apply for Crisis Fuel, the emergency component of the state’s fuel assistance program.

Our message is this: apply, apply, apply. We cannot repeat this enough. Every year our staff work with families who did not apply for Seasonal Fuel, either because they thought they were over income, or that they would not need the assistance; these are families that can find themselves going cold in the middle of the winter, as our office cannot provide assistance through Crisis Fuel until a Seasonal Fuel Assistance application has been successfully completed and a response has been provided by the State’s Office of Home Heating Fuel Assistance.

Seasonal Fuel Assistance can only assist with the primary home heating fuel; if a household has more than one source of heat, they have to decide what their primary source is.
