VermontBiz Lawmakers and immigrant community members rallied today at the Vermont State House to celebrate the passage of the “Education Equity for Immigrant Students” proposal by the legislature and to call on Governor Scott to sign the bill into law. Champlain Place on Shelburne Road is a new low-barrier shelter overseen by CVOEO. The building is currently under construction and housing 35 people temporarily. In the last eight months, eight people have already been transferred into transitional housing or permanent units.

Iona Grant’s life changed dramatically four months ago when a room opened up for her and her husband at Tim’s House, Franklin County’s only homeless shelter. “I'll praise this place to the highest of powers because it's made such a difference,” she said. “The change I’ve experienced within myself…I’ve got peace of mind and peace of soul.”
Dozens of University of Vermont students participated in “Together Vermont” on Sunday, a day UVM created that’s dedicated to volunteering in the Burlington community and building connections.
The UVM Grossman School of Business hosted the final presentations of the Joy and Jerry Meyers Cup at the Ifshin Hall Keller Room. Out of the three UVM undergraduate teams that presented their business ideas to a panel of judges, Painting With Purpose won the grand prize of $212,500 in cash.
The mere mention of tax season can induce anxiety in most taxpayers, but a few economics majors are stepping in to alleviate those worries and gain hands-on experience by volunteering as tax assistants. Through the Champlain Valley Office of Economic Opportunity (CVOEO), these students get to work with real-world clients to prepare their taxes for them.
