On Monday, Burlington City Council unanimously approved a proposal by the Champlain Valley Office of Economic Opportunity, in partnership with the Howard Center, to establish a new recovery center in the city.
The shelter will be developed at 184 Pearl Street and will have 12 to 13 beds. It will provide services for people that are unhoused, in need of shelter and those in recovery.
Mayor Emma Mulvaney-Stanak requested Burlington City Council to approve the funding of the project. The project will cost $104,000.
Now that they have the green light, CVOEO plans to open the recovery center by Feb. 1. They will provide staffing, but say they are looking for more hires.
