New recovery shelter opens in Burlington

The Bridges Recovery Shelter opened its doors in Burlington on Monday, offering a new resource for homeless Vermonters and those struggling with substance use.

The 12-bed shelter on Pearl Street is designed to be a safe, supportive environment for people in their recovery journeys. It is owned by the Howard Center and operated by the Champlain Valley Office of Economic Opportunity, or CVOEO.

“We know there is a real gap in our system. People complete residential treatment and have few stable and recovery-focused places to go. Others are working hard on their sobriety in environments that make that work even harder. This recovery shelter was designed to meet those needs,” said Sandra McGuire, the CEO of the Howard Center.

Shelter staff will support guests and help them transition successfully into permanent housing.
