Staff Spotlight: Jason Kekak’s “The Art of Transformation”
Jason Kekak, Housing Advocate at CVOEO’s Bridges Recovery Shelter, will open his art exhibit on Thursday, July 9, at 5:30 p.m. The exhibit features Jason’s reflections on recovery, resilience, and his journey to CVOEO.
Jason describes his creative work as “a visual conversation about the hope that exists within us all.” His pieces use three core elements:
- Chains - representing the bonds of addiction he once carried.
- Tools - symbolizing the resources and skills that helped him break free.
- Botanicals - reflect Vermont’s local beauty and the new life he has built here.
The words woven into Jason’s art are the daily affirmations that sustain him.
Jason’s Story
Four years ago, Jason moved to Vermont from Southern Connecticut to end a six-year battle with methamphetamine addiction. With support from CVOEO’s housing programs and River Rock Treatment Center, he found his footing in recovery. Jason now serves as a Housing Advocate at Bridges Recovery Shelter, where he supports people facing addiction and homelessness as they begin their own next chapter.
Success Story: SSI Benefits Secured
Sam supported a Community Resource Center regular who had experienced homelessness for more than five years in applying for SSI benefits. Sam stayed with the process from application to attorney calls and SSI meetings. The client is now receiving the full monthly SSI benefit they were entitled to. Thank you, Sam, for this persistence and advocacy.
Head Start Openings for 2026–2027
Champlain Valley Head Start still has openings for the 2026–2027 program year. Recruitment efforts include an open house and resource fair at the St. Albans Early Learning Center on July 13 from 2:30–4:30 p.m.; tabling at Beach Bites, Burlington Parks & Recreation’s summer event series at Leddy Park Beach; and a forthcoming press release highlighting the Addison County Early Learning Center.
