CHAMPLAIN VALLEY HEAD START

PRESCHOOL TEACHER and EARLY CARE ADVOCATE POSITIONS

Provide developmentally appropriate environment and experiences for preschool children in a Head Start classroom, and monthly home visits for families.  Assist families in accessing medical and dental care for preschool children.  Teacher – Highgate.  Requirements:  VT educator’s license with endorsement in early childhood education or early childhood special education.  40 hours/week, 42 weeks/year.  Starting wage $14.88–16.14/hour.  ECA – Burlington:  Requirements:  Associate’s Degree in Early Childhood Education or related education field, and classroom experience.  40 hours/week, 52 weeks/year.  Starting wage: $12.07–13.68/hour.  Both positions require experience in curriculum planning and implementation, child outcome assessment, and working with children with special needs.  Health plan and excellent benefits.

NUTRITION COORDINATOR ( Burlington):  Part time position with responsibilities as follows: Assure compliance with Head Start food and nutrition regulations; manage food service vendor contracts and budgets; process food/nutrition related purchase orders and bills.  Review and develop snack, breakfast and lunch menus for compliance with CACFP regulations, conduct food service site observations and establish new CACFP sites.  Process and submit CACFP claims for Head Start CACFP sites.  Complete CACFP monthly paperwork and eligibility forms, review records, gather and correct attendance, enrollment and income information, submit expenses, input claims data, and generate and mail bills.  Provide staff training as needed.

Qualifications:  Registered dietitian or nutritionist, or master’s degree in nutrition.  Strong administrative skills; experience in menu planning; abilities to interpret nutrition assessment data, provide nutrition counseling for families, and promote good nutrition habits among children and families; expertise in dealing with children with feeding challenges or special nutritional needs; familiarity with Child and Adult Care Food Program. Starting wage $17.00-$18.00/hour depending on qualifications and experience.  16 hrs/week, full year.

CVOEO Weatherization is looking for reliable people to join our installation crews that rehab homes to reduce energy use. Must have rough carpentry skills and basic electrical knowledge. Aptitude and willingness to learn new skills and techniques necessary.

Work from our Hinesburg office ranges through Addison and Chittenden counties. Valid driver’s license in good standing required; must be insurable by our carrier to drive company vehicles. Good pay dependent on experience; excellent benefits.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Position Title:  Children/Youth Services Coordinator

Position Summary - This position is responsible for coordinating all services pertaining to children including providing support and advocacy to children, implementing the shelter’s children’s program and participating in collaborative systems work in Franklin and Grand Isle Counties. This is currently a 20-30 hour per week position with possibility of becoming full time.  Supervision is by the Director.

Requirement for Knowledge/Experience:

·        Bachelor’s Degree in Human Service filed, i.e. Social Work, Counseling, Childhood Education, etc. or equivalent education/experience.

·        Knowledge of domestic and sexual violence issues preferred.

·        A highly motivated and responsible individual with the ability to relate to a wide variety of people in a non-judgmental, positive and competent manner.

·        Excellent presentation skills and ability to relate to children/youth.

·        Must demonstrate good organizational and crisis intervention skills.

·        Must be willing to work within the philosophy of the program and agency.

·        High level of written and verbal skills.

The Duties of the Position Include but are not Limited to:

  1. Coordinate all services and programs pertaining to children and youth within the organization.
  1. Work with other prevention staff in providing supportive services to school age children.
  1. Develop, modify and maintain curriculums for use in groups with kids and moms with a focus on strengthening the bonds between moms, kids and siblings.  Develop and maintain appropriate written materials for publication and program use.
  1. Maintain and increase contacts with area schools for the purpose of strengthening relationships, networking and creating opportunities for program expansion.
  1. Provide information and supportive services to clients concerning issues related to children/youth such as parenting and support groups for children.  
  1. Provide support and advocacy services to children/youth including individual support, group activities both residentially and non-residentially. Share in the responsibility of providing services to adult survivors when needed.
  1. Interact and network in an appropriate manner with other agencies, institutions and outside individuals to coordinate services for youth including participation in collaborative activities/groups.
  1. Assist in developing and implementing awareness activities initiated by the organization particularly those centered on October and April.  Collaborate with others in this effort.   Maintain contacts with media and governmental units.  Assist in developing awareness materials.
  1. Maintain records, complete reports and all other necessary paperwork in a timely manner.
  1. Coordinate and participate in volunteer trainings.
  1. Attend trainings and conferences as requested.
  1. Share in the responsibility of staffing the hotline and shelter during assigned times and being responsible for back up. 
  1. Abide by the policies and procedures of Voices Against Violence.
  1. Contribute to the smooth management of the program and agency which may include assuming other duties as assigned.
